Make Hay is a self-control app that helps you temporarily limit access to apps you choose until you reach your daily fitness goals.
Summary
- Make Hay does not require an account.
- Make Hay does not sell your data.
- Make Hay does not use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or a backend service.
- Make Hay processes your data on-device, including local progress snapshots used for goal evaluation and app blocking.
Information Make Hay accesses
Health data
If you grant permission, Make Hay reads selected Apple Health data so it can evaluate whether you have met your configured goals.
This may include:
- Steps.
- Active energy.
- Exercise minutes.
- Workout data.
Make Hay requests read access only. It does not write data to Apple Health.
Screen Time and Family Controls data
If you grant permission, Make Hay uses Apple's Family Controls and Managed Settings frameworks to apply shields to the apps and categories you choose.
This involves locally storing your selected app-blocking configuration so the app and its extension can stay in sync on your device.
App configuration data
Make Hay stores the minimum local configuration needed to function, such as:
- Your selected goals.
- Your blocked app selections.
- Current-day goal progress and blocking state used to keep the app, dashboard, and Device Activity extension in sync.
- Onboarding and permission state.
- Scheduling and temporary unlock state needed for app behavior.
How your data is used
Make Hay uses this information only to:
- Evaluate whether you have reached your goal.
- Update blocked or unblocked app state on your device.
- Restore your settings between launches.
- Show you current permission and sync status.
Data sharing
Make Hay does not send your personal data to a remote server.
Make Hay does not share your Health data, app selections, or usage configuration with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers.
Data storage and retention
Your configuration is stored locally on your device, including app-group storage used to coordinate with the Device Activity extension.
Health data used by Make Hay is read from Apple Health when needed. Make Hay may store a local current-day evaluation snapshot, such as steps, active energy, exercise minutes, blocking state, and timestamp, so the dashboard and app-blocking extension can stay consistent. Make Hay does not maintain a cloud copy of that data or send it off your device.
You can stop future access at any time by:
- Revoking Health access in the Health app.
- Revoking Screen Time or Family Controls access in iOS settings.
- Deleting the app from your device.
Third-party services
Make Hay relies on Apple platform services and frameworks, including Apple Health, Family Controls, Managed Settings, Device Activity, and background task APIs.
Optional tips in the app are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. Tips do not unlock features, change app-blocking behavior, or affect Health or Screen Time access.
Make Hay does not include third-party analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or social SDKs.
Children's privacy
Make Hay is designed as a self-control tool for the person using the device. It is not marketed as a child-directed service.
Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be updated if the app's data practices change. Material changes will be reflected on this page by updating the date above.
